Art Jewelry

Art jewelry, also known as designer and fashion jewelry, is becoming more and more sought after these days; with types and materials limited only to the imagination of the creating artist. Individual artists, some of whom actually create miniature paintings and incorporate them into jewelry pieces, use a variety of materials in their designs including stones, glass, wood, metals, acrylics, and numerous synthetic materials, including synthetic marble, alabaster, pearl, polyester and polyimide plastics, and other materials.

Art jewelry is often sold in accessory shops and also on the internet, with jewelry artists turning what originates from very inexpensive materials into creations costing hundreds of dollars, with values depending on the reputation of the creating artist. It has often been said that a jewelry maker involved in such designs can turn scrap non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass, aluminum, and other metals into beautiful creations when combined with semi-precious stones such as garnet, quartz, amethyst, and even pieces of broken glass from bottles and other glass ware, including hand blown glass.

A number of talented Israeli artists are now cashing in on the 'wave' of art and designer jewelry; and some of their creations are noted in many fine fashion magazines, and are also featured on numerous internet web sites. Some jewelry, known as bead jewelry, fetch high prices on internet action sites such as ebay. It is sometimes amazing what people are willing to pay for ceramic and wood creations which combined with pieces of glass, and other common materials are turned into true works of art.

Earrings are very popular art jewelry pieces with a virtual unlimited variety available at prices suitable for nearly every budget. Birth stones jewelry which can be made with either precious or non-precious stones, including synthetic rubies, cubic zirchronium or yittirum aluminum garnet (YAG) and others are turned into fabulous creations by the jewelry artist's loving hands. Trade magazines such as Art Jewelry and Bead and Button Magazine give helpful hints on creating this type of jewelry, and feature many jewelry creations as well. Sources for special materials are also noted in these publications, especially for artists wanting "special materials" such as petrified wood and dinosaur bones as well as ancient blown and fused glass (often seen in certain types of designer jewelry).

As the cost of diamonds, gold, and other precious materials continue to climb, and even greater desire for art and fashion jewelry will become the norm for accessory jewelry items.
